Celebrating love the Romanian way! ❤️ This year for Dragobete, I've chosen to show you how the tradition of good taste blends wonderfully with new and delicious ideas. I've prepared a fine, crispy, and extremely simple dessert to make with the help of puff pastry, which gives us that familiar taste we all love.
🛒 Ingredients (for 32 pieces)
For the baskets: * 800 g puff pastry * 2 egg yolks + 2 tablespoons of milk (for brushing)
For the vanilla cream: * 500 ml milk * 250 ml heavy cream * 5 egg yolks * 100 g sugar * 40 g starch * Vanilla essence or vanilla bean
For decoration: * 250 g fresh strawberries (or your favorite fruit) * Mint leaves
👨🍳 Preparation method
- The Cream: Heat the milk with the vanilla. Mix the egg yolks with the sugar and starch, then pour the warm milk in a thin stream. Cook over low heat until it thickens, stirring continuously. Let the cream cool with plastic wrap directly on its surface (so it doesn't form a crust).
- The Baskets: Roll out the puff pastry and cut equal squares. Score a smaller square inside each one (without cutting all the way through) and prick the middle with a fork.
- Baking: Brush the edges with the egg yolk and milk mixture. Bake at 190°C until they become golden and nicely risen.
- Assembly: Once they have cooled, gently press the middle of the baskets and fill them with vanilla cream using a pastry bag. Decorate with fresh strawberry slices and mint.
